The 2021 American Silver Eagle is available from the United States Mint in two different versions. The coins in BU Series were introduced in January 2021 with the original design combinations, while those coins struck from July 2021 onward featured the new reverse design element. This set includes a 2021 Type 1 Silver Eagle with the original heraldic eagle reverse, as well as a 2021 Type 2 Silver Eagle with the new reverse design from Emily Damstra. Both coins feature a gilded finish with a thin layer of 24-karat gold applied to select design elements.

Since 1986, the heraldic eagle design created by John Mercanti has featured on the reverse side of all Silver Eagles in the bullion coins. As of mid-2021, a new design element replaces this iconic visual. Designed by Emily Damstra in 2020, the new image captures the American bald eagle in flight.

The obverse of both coins in the 2021 American Silver Eagle 2-Coin Set comes with the iconic Walking Liberty effigy. Created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, this left-profile image of Liberty shows her figure walking toward the sun on the horizon.

On the reverse of the coins in the 2021 Silver Eagle 2-Coin Set, you will find two different images. The Type 1 coin has the original heraldic eagle with the front-facing bald eagle supporting the US national shield. The Type 2 coin features the new bald eagle soaring through the sky with an oak branch in its talons.

The gilded application on these coins is found on the Walking Liberty effigy on the obverse of the Type 1 coin, and on the new bald eagle design on the reverse of the Type 2 coin.
